PATHANAMTHITTA, JAN. 25. The failure of the medical team deputed by the District Medical Officer to accompany the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, and his three Cabinet colleagues during their visit to the Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Monday has come in for criticism. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Adoor Prakash, who accompanied the Chief Minister, had developed dizziness and muscle sprain while climbing the Neelimala. However, the officials attached to other departments and political leaders who accompanied the Cabinet team took care of him. The medical team deputed by the DMO, N. Damodaran, reached the Sannidhanam only after Mr. Chandy reached there. It failed to accompany him in the return trip also. When contacted, the DMO ascribed the failure to certain health problems of the team leader. There were reports of pilgrim casualty at Sabarimala on more than one occasion allegedly owing to the failure of the Health Department to provide medical facility there during the monthly puja period. However, while addressing the meeting on Monday, the Director of Health Services promised to extend the facility during the puja period too.
