ERODE, JAN. 25 . Representations would be made to the Chief Minister for the sanction of Rs. 50 lakhs to construct a golden chariot for the Chennimalai Sri Subramaniya Swamy Temple, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, P.C. Ramasamy, has said. At a ceremony to lay the foundation for the rajagopuram of the temple today, he said that the five-tier gopuram would be constructed at Rs. 45 lakhs. The renovation of the Sri Kailasanathar Temple in Chennimalai was in progress at Rs. 48 lakhs and would soon be completed. The kumbabhishegam would be performed on March 16, he said. In three years, kumbabhishegams were performed at 3,000 temples in the State, and ten temple cars repaired this year.
17 hill temples
The State Finance Minister, C. Ponnaiyan, said that of the 32 hill temples in the State, 17 were at Erode, Salem and Coimbatore districts. The Ministers of Animal Husbandry, Food and Cooperation, and Backward Classes, P.V. Dhamodharan, Pollachi V. Jayaraman and S.M. Velusamy respectively, spoke on the annadhan scheme, temple renovation and facilities to pilgrims and devotees at the temples. The Hindu Religious Department Commissioner, G. Ramakrishnan, presided, the Secretary, P.A. Ramiah, the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, the Kangeyam MLA, Selvi Murugesan, and the Chairman of the Trustees of the Chennimalai Sri Subramaniya Swamy Temple, P.C. Palanisamy, spoke. Earlier, the Ministers and other officials participated in the temple chariot celebration and pulled the temple car.
