TIRUNELVELI, JAN. 25. The Ignatius College of Education, Palayamkottai, is conducting a three-day international conference from January 27 on `Learning-centred Education' in connection with the 18th annual conference of All-India Association for Educational Research. According to the Secretary, Ignatius College of Education, Rev. Sr. Nirmala Sundararaj, it was high time to revolutionise the age-old education system in the wake of modifications effected in the economic policies of the country. While the Government aid for education is significantly reduced and the rapidly growing Information Technology has given a new dimension to the learning capacity of individuals, each institution should become a "real learning centre" to mould students for a highly competitive future. "In this scenario, the heads of institutions and teachers should be highly dedicated to their profession and the learning centres should be managed resourcefully so that moulding of students would be an interesting exercise. The conference, to be attended by more than 350 educationists, including vice-chancellors, advocates, librarians etc. from 19 States, will also focus on things to be concentrated in the changing environment, especially on the syllabi and the society in which the learner lives," Rev. Sr. Nirmala said. The Member-Secretary of Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Chennai, V.S. Muthukumaran, would inaugurate the meet while the Collector, Atul Anand, would release conference proceedings
