PUDUKOTTAI, JAN.25 . Various schemes, incentives and subsidies offered by the Centre and the State Government to encourage entrepreneurs start business units were explained at a one-day seminar on `Emerging engineering industries in Pudukottai district' here today. Inaugurating the seminar, the Collector, Jatindranath Swain, highlighted subsidies and incentives offered under the New Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, export incentives and interest subsidy. Highlighting salient features of Value Added Tax, he informed the participants about the subsidy on obtaining ISO certification. Besides, he explained effective marketing of finished products through the visual media. Muralidharan, Small Industries Promotion Officer, Small Industries Service Institute, Chennai, explained the salient features of Capital Linked Credit Subsidy Scheme for entrepreneurs. He highlighted the subsidies and incentives available to engineering industries and export opportunities. Besides, he explained the UNIDO assistance given to cluster development programmes for existing industrial clusters. P. Sureshkumar, Manager, National Small Industries Corporation, Madurai, explained the corporation's single point purchase programme and the assistance offered by the Government for displaying Small Scale Industry products in exhibitions held in foreign countries during 2004-05. N.P. Sukumar, Regional Manager, Confederation of Indian Industry, Tiruchi, said there were plenty of opportunities to engineering industries. S. Ramachandran of the District Industries Centre, Pudukottai, gave an overall outline of the seminar, organised by the DIC. The Pudukottai district SSI Association, president, S. Rajakumar, Mathur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association, president, S.M. Panneerselvam, Tiruchi Wire Products Manufacturers' Association, secretary, S. Kathiresan, and the Centre for Entrepreneur Development, Pudukottai, chief adviser, S. Prithiviraj, spoke.
