Allies confront each other in Jammu

By Our Staff Reporter

JAMMU, JAN. 25. A multi-cornered contest is being witnessed in the civic polls in Jammu and Kashmir as coalition allies could not reach seat adjustments. The two principal allies — Congress and People's Democratic Party (PDP) — confront each other in many seats.

Despite seat adjustments in rural areas, the allies are all set for a contest in a dozen-odd seats in the Jammu for the municipal elections. The reason is that both parties feel they have a better chance in urban areas. The PDP, which is contesting the civic polls for the first time, also wants to put up a credible performance and strengthen its base at the grassroots. Although it is a civic election, party candidates are not shying away from raising State-level issues and the coalition allies are vying to claim credit for the various developmental works.
