BELLARY, JAN. 25. The district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat has condemned the district administration's attitude and officials of all departments concerned for their negligence in giving Kannada its due in the district.
Memorandum
Members of the parishat's district unit submitted a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner here on Tuesday. Led by the president of the district unit, Nishti Rudrappa, the members pointed out that although there was a rule that signboards in Kannada should be prominently displayed in front of all business establishments and educational institutions, it was hardly being implemented. The members said that several memoranda have been presented by various pro-Kannada organisations in this regard. The Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chairman of the district-level Kannada Jagruti Samiti, and the tahsildars at the taluk-level, had the authority to initiate action against those who violated the rule. However, no action had been initiated against the erring trade and business houses and private educational institutions. The members urged the Deputy Commissioner to initiate action within 15 days. H. Hampanagowda, former president of the parishat, S. Oblesh, H. Aleshwargowda, K.V. Manohar, Havinal Veerbhadrappa, Sharanabasappa, Virupakshagowda, Vijay, and V.S. Maridevaiah, were present.
