SHIMLA, JAN. 25. On the 35th Statehood Day today the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh, advised the people to rise above petty political consideration make it a self-sufficient and rich State. He unfurled the National Flag at Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra district to mark the occasion. Big contingents of Police, NCC and Home Guards held an impressive march past. The Chief Minister said that his Government was for optimum exploitation of natural resources available within the State so that special attention could be paid on areas which have remained neglected so far. Mr. Singh said that welfare of all sections, specially the weaker section, would be ensured by the Government by initiating various schemes aimed at their socio-economic upliftment. He said that Himachal Pradesh has an immense hydel potential of 21,000 MW and out of this only 6000 MW could be harnessed so far. He said that Government has formulated a plan to harness 8,000 MW of additional power in next four years. He said that industrial development has been given a big boost and new industrial policy formulated which aimed at providing attractive incentives to the entrepreneurs in setting up of their units in the State. He claimed that investment worth Rs. 8000 crore has been attracted since the present Government took over by giving permission to set up over 3000 new industrial units in which 1.35 lacs persons would get employment. He said that plan was afoot to ensure the benefits of industrialisation in interior and far-flung areas of the State. Reiterating his Government's resolve for providing transparent, responsive and efficient administration to the people, Mr. Singh said that steps were being taken to root out the corruption from all walks of life. He made it very clear that those guilty of corruption would not go unpunished, but at the same time there would be no witch hunting. He claimed that redressal of public grievances had also been accorded priority by the Government and a separate department under his supervision has been created for the purpose. The Chief Minister said that construction of roads, education and health were the three priority areas for the Government. He said that Government plans to connect every panchayats with roads in next three years.
