ANATAPUR, JAN.25. The TDP MLA from Penukonda, Paritala Ravindra, was laid to rest in his orchard amid emotional scenes at his native Venkatapuram village on Tuesday. The TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, accompanied by a host of State leaders paid tributes to the leader. Among others those who paid tributes were the balladeer, Gadar, the Maoist emissary, Kalyan Rao, actor, Mohanbabu and the BJP leaders -- Bandaru Dattatreya and Naresh. Mr. Gadar paid tributes by rendering a revolutionary song. As Mr. Naidu, accompanied by a host of top TDP leaders landed at Venkatapuram, partymen mobbed him and sobbed beating their chests. As the leaders went inside the late leader's house, the frenzied mob attacked the rope party and chased them into nearby fields and rained stones. A police vehicle which brought the police team was toppled and set on fire.
Lensmen thrashed
Mediapersons, who tried to capture the images of the violence, also tasted the wrath of the mob. Several lensmen and cameramen sustained injuries. The mob destroyed video cameras and still cameras of the media. The leaders were stunned by the aggressive posture of the crowd but could not do anything. Violence erupted elsewhere in the district. At Obuladevara Cheruvu, the mob raided the Mandal Revenue Office and the gram panchayat office and set them on fire. At Gandlapenta, the MRO office faced the wrath of the mob. A telephone exchange was torched at Mohammadabad in Amadagur mandal.
