THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 25. The recommendations in the concept plan for Sabarimala development prepared by Ecosmart India Limited would cause hardship to the pilgrims and are against the interests of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), the leaders of the TDB Employees Confederation have said.
Introduce token system
The leaders, V. Sivankutty and Anayara Chandran, told reporters here today that the recommendation to introduce token system for the pilgrims was made without understanding the ground realities in Sabarimala. The Government is getting crores of rupees after every annual festival in Sabarimala. The board is also paying huge amounts to the Kerala Water Authority, the Kerala State Electricity Board, Health Department and the police. Still the Government has not enhanced its annual contribution to the board, they said. Though the Government has got the first instalment of the fund for the Pamba Action Plan, construction work has not begun so far.
Improve basic facilities
The Central and State Governments are not keen on getting forest land to improve the basic facilities for pilgrims. The Government and the Devaswom Minister are intervening in the day-to-day affairs of the board, they charged. The confederation State conference is scheduled to be held here on Friday and Saturday. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, would inaugurate a public meeting to be held in connection with the conference at Asan Square on Friday evening, they said. The confederation was the only organisation that got recognition following at referendum held on February 2, 2003, the leaders said.
