MYSORE, JAN. 25. The Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, will participate in the Republic Day celebrations to be organised by the district administration at Chamundi Vihar Stadium here on Wednesday. A release said besides the Deputy Chief Minister, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, H.C. Mahadevappa, the Minister for Tourism, D.T. Jayakumar, and the Minister of State for Labour and Haj, Tanveer Sait, would participate. It said the event would comprise flag hoisting ceremony, national anthem singing, march past and a Republic Day message from the Deputy Chief Minister. The Mayor, Dakshinamurthy, the Mysore MP, C.H. Vijayshankar, the Mysore Zilla Panchayat President, K.C. Balram, and MLAs and MLCs from the district would take part in the function. The Mysore City Corporation has banned the use of plastic flags tomorrow. A release from the corporation Commissioner, A.B. Ibrahim, requested the people not to use plastic flags as they were not biodegradable and that they posed a threat to the environment. The release said shop owners had also been directed not to sell national flags made out of plastic sheets.
