Missing wife of IAS officer traced

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, JAN. 25. The wife of the Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer, Sachin Sinha, who went missing from here under mysterious circumstances on December 28, was traced in Patna on January 21.

What gave a strange twist to the episode was the fact that one Khemchand, who was Mr. Sinha's driver, when he was posted as the Balaghat Collector, was also missing along with Shivi Sinha.

The Bhopal police had launched a massive hunt for Ms. Sinha, after her husband had lodged a missing person's complaint at a police station here.

Police sources told The Hindu that Ms. Sinha's mobile phone was kept under observation and it was found that she was living somewhere in Patna. The police passed this information to her father, a retired High Court Judge. Meanwhile, Ms. Sinha contacted her father as she needed money but did not disclose her whereabouts. It was at this juncture that her father, mother and brother talked to her over the mobile phone and used psychological pressure to find out where she was actually located. She chose to maintain secrecy till the last moment but broke down when told that the police team from Bhopal had reached Patna. After she had revealed her location, Ms. Sinha and Khemchand were traced in Patna on January 21. She was later taken to Delhi by her father.

It is learnt that Ms. Sinha had left Bhopal along with Khemchand and reached Ujjain on December 28. The next day both boarded a train for Patna. Police sources said Ms. Sinha was staying at some ashram and there was no evidence to establish any relationship between her and Khemchand. While pointing out that this appeared to be a "gross case of domestic violence", a district police officer said that perhaps Khemchand was used for safe passage and as an escort by Ms. Sinha during this period.
