Congress candidate arrested

RANCHI, JAN. 25. Three political leaders including a Congress MLA were arrested here today while filing their nominations. They were wanted in different cases.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ranchi, Pradeep Kumar, the candidate of the Jharkhand Janadhikar Party, Bandhu Tirkey from Mandar constituency; the Congress MLA and candidate from Mandar, Dev Kumar Dhan; and the independent candidate, Uday Shankar Ojha, were arrested. They were wanted in cases pertaining to breach of peace in the State.

All the three leaders were said to have been involved in the Domicile movement in the State and were accused of breaching the peace in the name of spearheading the agitation in favour of their respective communities.

The JPP today said that it had forged tie-ups with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (Democratic) and the UGDP.

The vice-president, Ratan Tirkey, said the JMM central secretary, Hazi Akhtar Ansari, resigned from the party and joined the combine today and would be the candidate for the Hatia constituency.
