NEW DELHI, JAN. 25. A Delhi court today sentenced an accused to five years' rigorous imprisonment for shooting at him following a quarrel over parking of vehicles in Janakpuri in West Delhi in 1998. The dispute between the accused Rajiv Singh Sodhi, who owns a banquet hall, and the victim Ashok Gupta, arose when the latter objected to parking of vehicles in front of his house by customers visiting the restaurant. Sodhi's father, Dalvinder Singh, the other accused in the case, was let off after the court adjusted his sentence with the time already served in jail during the trial of the case. However, the Additional Sessions Judge, S.N. Dhingra, imposed a fine of Rs. 1,00,000 on him of which Rs. 75,000 would be paid to the victim as compensation. Mr. Dhingra has also directed Rajiv Singh Sodhi to deposit a fine of Rs. 50,000 of which Rs. 25,000 would be transferred to the victim's account. Dalvinder, who had shot at the victim, was arrested on the day of the crime while his son was arrested 15 days later. Sentencing the two, Mr. Dhingra said: "The prosecution has been able to prove the case beyond all reasonable doubts."
