Ten-wicket match haul by Pragyan

CHENNAI, JAN. 25. Despite left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha completing a 10-wicket match haul, Hyderabad conceded much ground to Tamil Nadu at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, the second day of the second round match in the C. Ramachandra Rao under-22 (South Zone) tournament.

At stumps, Tamil Nadu was 279 for nine in its second innings, leading by 383 runs. For the host, opener Anirudh Srikkanth blasted his way to 91 (77b, 15x4, 1x6), while E. Suresh is unbeaten on 78 (92b, 9x4, 1x6). Ojha, who has figures of six for 86, took his match tally to 11 for 160. Hyderabad was skittled out for 141 with paceman S. Desappan claiming five for 45.

In an innings that was a shambles, Mohammad Imran Khan top-scored with 30.

At SPIC-YMCA, Stuart Binny, overnight 61, progressed to 125 (119b, 3x6, 15x4) against Kerala, while Nidhuvan, resuming on 73, fell at 83 (222b, 10x4). Karnataka declared its first innings at 466 for eight — left-arm spinner P. Prashanth accounted for four of the wickets — and by the close of play, Kerala had moved to 99 for one, V.A. Jagadish, unbeaten on 47. With left-arm spinner Laxman Kishore scalping six for 38, Andhra bundled out Goa for 107 at the Viveka-SICAL ground, gaining a lead of 249. Andhra, commencing at 247 for five, declared at 356 for nine, Raja Moinuddin making 54 not out (94b, 7x4, 1x6) and Kalyan Krishna 44.

The scores: Tamil Nadu 245 & 279 for nine in 52 overs (Anirudh Srikkanth 91, E. Suresh 78 batting, Pragyan Ojha six for 86) vs Hyderabad 141 in 59 overs (S. Desappan five for 45), at MAC.

Karnataka 466 for eight decl. in 126.1 overs (Bharat Chipli 100, Nidhuvan 83, Stuart Binny 125, V. Uthappa 53, P. Prashant four for 89) vs Kerala 99 for one in 57 overs (V.A. Jagadish 47 batting), at SPIC-YMCA.

Andhra 356 for nine decl. in 127 overs (J.T. Yadav 92, Gyaneswara Rao 65, Raja Moinuddin 54 not out, Kalyan Krishna 44) vs Goa 107 in 53 overs (Laxman Kishore six for 38), at Viveka-SICAL. — Our Principal Correspondent
