Muralitharan in Lankan squad

COLOMBO, JAN. 25. Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will return to Test cricket in March for the series against New Zealand after an extended lay-off with a shoulder injury, the Sri Lankan Board said on Tuesday.

Muralitharan has been sidelined since August when he withdrew before the second Test of the two-match series against South Africa in Sri Lanka. He later underwent surgery in Australia.

Sri Lanka begins the tour on March 28 with a first-class match, followed by two Tests.

The squad: Marvan Atapattu (capt.), Mahela Jayawardene, Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara, Ian Daniel, Saman Jayantha, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Thilan Samaraweera, Jehan Mubarak, Chaminda Vaas, Prasanna Jayawardene, Dilhara Fernando, Nuwan Zoysa, Lasith Malinga, Farveez Maharoof, Nuwan Kulasekara, Upul Chandana, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Rangana Herath, Thilina Kandamby, Nandika Ranjith, Chanaka Welagedara and Russel Arnold. — AP
