THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 25. The Kerala Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, on Tuesday expressed protest against the Income Tax Department doing a valuation of the gold crown offered by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, to the Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple in Kerala. Replying to a question during his weekly Cabinet briefing on the Income Tax office in Chennai wanting to ascertain the value of the crown, the Chief Minister said he was personally against the Department doing valuation of offerings received at places of worship. "It will create a bad precedent." However, this is not his Government's view. The Government will have to look at the legal aspects of the request from the Income Tax Department, he said. Last week, the Guruvayur Devaswom Board had decided to refer the request to the Government.
