KOZHIKODE, JAN. 25 . The BJP State president, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, demanded a judicial probe into the sex scandal cases that rocked the State during the rule of United Democratic Front (UDF) and Left Democratic Front (LDF) Governments. The allegations that there were serious deficiencies in the investigations and that these were derailed by politicians should also be brought under the purview of the judicial probe, the BJP State president said at a press conference today. He said that the Suryanelli case and the ice-cream parlour sex scandal case had to be brought under the judicial inquiry. Mr. Pillai said his party was demanding a judicial probe since there were grave allegations by even CPI(M) leaders that the Suryanelli case was sabotaged, resulting in acquittal of a majority of the accused in the case.
CPI(M) march
He said that the criticism being voiced by the CPI(M) against the Kerala High Court and its plan to organise a march to the High Court were ``ridiculous'' and ``an attempt to divert public attention from the lapses it made in the Suryanelli case.'' The legitimate course of action was to go in appeal against its verdict in the Suryanelli case, if it did not agree with the court's verdict, he said. He said the CPI(M)'s proposed march to the High Court would be illegal. He said the CPI(M) had made similar hostile responses when courts had passed verdicts against its workers in two murder cases the Jayakrishnan case and the Panniyoor Chandran case in which the victims were BJP workers. Mr. Sreedharan Pillai said that the ongoing war of statements between two lawyers known to be CPI(M) supporters had brought out many things. He said that the Suryanelli case was ``sabotaged'' resulting in acquittal of most of the accused. The CPI(M) had a role in it and there was misuse of power during the LDF rule to help UDF leaders who were accused in the Suryanelli and Kozhikode ice-cream parlour cases.
