KANNUR, JAN. 25. Diversification of coconut products and increase in coconut production and productivity are the major challenges before coconut growers in the State to tide over the present crisis in the coconut sector, according to agriculture and plantation crops experts. The highlight of a seminar on ``Coconut cultivation,'' sponsored by the Coconut Development Board here today in connection with the Flower Show being organised by the Kannur District Agri-Horticultural Society, was the crisis being faced by coconut growers in the State, even as the neighbouring States had far outdone the State in production and productivity of coconut growing. Experts who attended the seminar disclosed that the State accounted for 51 per cent of the total area under coconut cultivation and 44 per cent of coconut production in the country.
