VELLORE, JAN. 25. The former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Minister, Durai Murugan, his wife Santhakumari, son Kadir Anand, daughter-in-law Sangeetha and brother Durai Singaram, today received copies of the charge sheet in a disproportionate wealth case filed against them by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in the court of the Additional District Judge-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate, Vellore. The DVAC registered the case in October 2002, following a petition filed by a Vellore journalist in the court. Simultaneous raids were held the same month on the houses and business premises of the former Minister and his relatives in Chennai, Vellore and Bangalore. The charge sheet lists 600 documents and 206 witnesses and accuses Mr. Durai Murugan and his relatives of having amassed Rs. 3.94 crores, "disproportionate to known sources of their income."
