Carmel, St. Xavier's triumph

KOCHI, JAN. 25. Aluva teams — Carmel Club and St. Xavier's College — won the men's and women's titles respectively in the 22nd Thebasco all-Kerala basketball tournament at the Sacred College floodlit court (Thevara) on Monday. Carmel men pipped Friends (Alappuzha) 73-70, while St. Xavier's women defeated St. Joseph's (Alappuzha) 35-23.

Good Morning Club (Thiruvananthapuram) defeated host Thebasco Club 67-49 to bag the men's veterans' title.

Special awards: Men: Vipin K. Kannan (best player, Friends); Manoj (most promising, Carmel); Women: Riya C. Jose (best player, St. Xavier's).
