Govt. to help market, export handicrafts

BANGALORE,
JAN. 25.
The Minister for Industries and Infrastructure Development, P.G.R. Sindhia, told the Legislative Council today that the Government will organise an exhibition of locally produced leather, Bidriware products, artefacts and other handicraft items in all the districts of the State to build an enduring domestic market and exploring the possibilities of their export potential.
Replying to a question raised by Umashree (Congress - nominated), Mr. Sindhia said the Government has prepared a comprehensive scheme estimated at Rs. 1,250 crores for the purpose.
The Government would attempt to make the Leather Industry Development Corporation (LIDKAR) viable, Mr. Sindhia said.
