CHENNAI, JAN. 25 . The Life Insurance Corporation's southern zone is a trendsetter in terms of contribution, growth and policy servicing standards, R.N. Bhardwaj, chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India, said today. Dedicating a new branch office on Anna Salai, Mr. Bhardwaj said the new building was a sign of the company's commitment to service. In the "absolute volume of premium income, this is the first time the (southern) zone has stood first." Explaining its involvement in improving the life of citizens he said, the company had invested Rs. 40,000 crores in infrastructure projects and subscribes to 25 per cent of Central Government borrowings, besides that of the State Governments. R.R.Nair, Zonal Manager, said, the south zone served about nine per cent of the population and listed the achievements to its credit this year. The southern zone, comprising Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry, has more than 12,000 employees and 1.30 lakh agents. The LIC had contributed Rs. 5 crores to tsunami relief, he said. Rs. 2 crores had been invested in the new building. It will house branches of banks such as the Corporation Bank. The Senior Divisional Manager, L. Ajith Kumar, said the building was earthquake proof.
