MANGALORE, JAN. 25. The problems arising out of the naxalite movement could not be handled by gun-wielding policemen or paramilitary forces, but by taking steps towards implementing "land reforms," according to the Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M) Sitaram Yechury. Citing the example of West Bengal, where the naxal movement started, he said that the movement was successfully countered using land reforms. Similarly, the State Governments, where the naxalite problem persists, should take up land reforms, he said. He said the CPI(M) is not happy the way the Governments are handling the naxalite problems in the Congress-ruled States.
