Venkaiah Naidu for CBI probe into MLA's murder
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
JAN. 25.
The murder of Telugu Desam Party MLA, Paritala Ravi, was the result of "total failure of the State Government machinery and its intelligence network," the former Bharatiya Janata Party president, Venkaiah Naidu, said today while demanding that the Central Bureau of Investigation be asked to probe the killing.
Blaming the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh for the state of lawlessness, Mr. Naidu said that as many as 40 political workers, mostly from the Opposition parties, had been "eliminated through murder" since the Rajasekhara Reddy Government was installed eight months ago.
Mr. Naidu appealed to the people to remain calm.
On the Congress' stand on talks with naxals, Mr. Naidu said that the policy amounted to "confusion, contradiction and compulsion [the last because, he alleged, the Congress had taken help from the naxals during election] leading to chaos."
