NEDUMBASSERY, JAN. 25. An elephant killed its first mahout at Kurumassery near the Nedumbassery airport today. Parameshwaran (35) of Kanamkodathu House, Vasupuram, in Thrissur, was killed by Kannan, an elephant owned by Surendran of Avittathur. The pachyderm was brought for the festival at the Subramanyam Swamy Temple in Kurumassery. The police said that the incident happened at 4.30 a.m., when the mahout was trying to remove the caparison from the elephant. Though he was rushed to the Medical Centre hospital, he succumbed to the injuries by 3 p.m.
