Republic Day parade

KOCHINEDUMBASSERY, JAN. 25.JAN. 25. The district administration's Republic Day celebrations will begin at Maharaja's College grounds at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The Fisheries and Sports Minister, Dominic Presentation, will hoist the National Flag at 8.30 a.m.

The District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, requested Government employees and public to participate in the programmes.

Killed in accident

Sasikumar S, 36, of Vattakatupady, Perumbavoor, was killed when his bike was hit by a bus near Kadaval Junction on the Perumbavoor-Kalady route. The accident took place around 8.15 p.m. He died on the way to the hospital.

Seminar

A regional seminar on Quality Assurance in Social Work Education will be held at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences from January 27 to 29 as part of its golden jubilee programmes. The seminar, sponsored by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, will be attended by the heads of the institutions of social work education in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Found dead

A 19-year-old girl, Ginimol, was found dead at her residence at Kuthapady near Thammanam on Tuesday afternoon. She was a second year degree student at Maharaja's College.

Postponed

The 16th convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), scheduled for February 12, has been postponed. The new date will be announced later.

Bag stolen

KOCHINEDUMBASSERY, JAN. 25.JAN. 25. A passenger who arrived at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery to board the flight to Bangalore lodged a complaint with the airport police that his suitcase and handbag containing valuables worth Rs. 3 lakhs were snatched by two persons who came on a bike.

S.R. Rajan, an Indian origin with Australian citizenship, who came to board the Indian Airlines flight IC 909 at 2.00 p.m., complained that the incident took place at the parking lot just outside the departure side of the domestic terminal.
