THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 25. The Fort police have detained a 35-year-old Malaysian citizen on the charge of staying in the city without a valid passport. Circle Inspector T. F. Xaviour identified the detainee as Loganathan. He was staying in a city hotel when he was arrested by the police. Mr. Loganathan reportedly told the police that he was in the city to recruit rubber tappers for a private plantation in Malayasia. However, the police said he did not possess any papers to carry out such a recruitment drive. The police are verifying Loganathan's antecedents.
Two held
The Excise department have arrested two persons on the charge of peddling narcotic drugs. The Circle Inspector, Excise, B. Suresh Kumar, identified the accused as Kishore, 25, and Premchand, 29. He said several ampules of a pharmaceutical drug containing morphine and syringes were seized from the accused near Pettah. They were produced before the magistrate court on the charge of violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
Woman killed
A 92-year-old woman, who was attempting to draw water from a well in her house compound, died after she slipped and fell into the well. The accident is said to have happened on Tuesday morning, when there were no one else in the house. The deceased has been identified as Narayani, of Krishna Vilasam, Kallampally, near Sreekaryam. The body has been kept in the mortuary of Medical College Hospital.
