BANGALORE, JAN. 25. Three persons assaulted a hotel owner and took away his gold ring, mobile phone and Rs. 1,000 in cash near Command Hospital in Ulsoor police station limits on Monday night. The police said Sudhakar (30), who runs a hotel in Victoria Layout, was returning from the hotel to his house at Bhoopanahalli on his motorcycle. Near the Command Hospital, Sudhakar stopped his vehicle to receive a call on his mobile phone. Three people approached Sudhakar, slit his thigh and shoulders with knives and made away with the valuables.
Burglary charges
The Kempegowda police have arrested a person on charges of involvement in seven cases of burglaries and recovered from him silver ornaments, a computer, a motorcycle and other articles. The police gave the name of the accused as Ravi Kumar (23) of Bagalakunte. The accused was involved in burglaries in R.M.C. Yard, HAL, Kempegowda and other police station limits, the police said.
Feared drowned
Santosh, 18, of Vijanapura is feared to have drowned in the Benaganahalli lake in K.R. Puram police station limits on Monday. Santosh, the police said, along with four others, had gone for a swim on Monday afternoon. On a complaint by Santosh's father, M.V. Das, the police sought the help of local swimmers to search for Santosh.
Five held
The Banashankari police have arrested five persons on charges of extortion and recovered from them a gold chain, a wrist watch and three motorcycles, in all valued at Rs. 1.3 lakh.
Pirated VCDs recovered
The Vijayanagar police have arrested three persons on charges of selling pirated video compact discs (VCDs) of Hindi, English, Telugu and Tamil films. The police have recovered 806 pirated VCDs from them.
Pedestrian dies
A 40-year-old man was killed on the spot when he was hit by a lorry at Air Force 3rd gate in Hebbal traffic police station limits on Monday night. The police have seized the lorry and are searching for the driver.
