HYDERABAD, JAN. 25. The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) approved the budget estimates for the year 2005-2006 at a meeting held here on Tuesday. The total budget estimates, including revenue expenditure, capital expenditure and transfer to revenue fund, was Rs. 692 crores, a rise of Rs. 11.31 crores (1.66 per cent hike) compared to last year's figure of Rs. 680.69 crores. The revenue income was projected to touch Rs. 538.46 crores (Rs. 520 crores last year - 3.5 per cent rise) and capital expenditure to be spent on roads, flyovers, sewerage, street lighting, etc., was Rs. 362.92 crores (Rs. 360.69 crores last year - 0.62 per cent rise). But, the meeting was preceded by a protest by the Municipal Karmika Sangh. Activists of the labour union led by Balaiah, Maheshwar and others, picked up an argument with the Standing Committee Chairperson, Yaseem Sultana, over recommending promotion to a Games inspector-cum-coach, ignoring 18 others.
Union's objection
These orders were cleared in the last meeting and members belonging to the Telugu Desam and Bharatiya Janata Party opposed this. The union leaders' contention was it was done against rules. The MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, intervened and pacified both the parties by promising to look into the matter. The budget estimates would have to be passed in the general body meeting of the elected council.
