Citizens Service Bureaus for all MCD wards

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN. 25. In a major initiative to provide quick and efficient service, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today decided to set up Citizens Service Bureau (CSBs) in all its 143 wards that will not only provide electronically enabled services to citizens but is also likely to be used for receiving water, power and telephone bills.

Till now, the CSBs were operational only at zonal level where services like online registration of births and deaths, bookings of marriage halls and depositing dues were being provided.

In today's MCD Standing Committee meeting, it was decided that all the CSBs will be constructed on the pattern of porta cabins on which around Rs.2 crores would be spend. The service bureaus would provide relief to citizens for receiving information and depositing dues in all the wards. The CSBs will be constructed on the municipal land only in the existing maintenance stores of Engineering Department or other space available in each ward.

The Standing Committee was told that CSBs will function for collection of dues of other agencies and departments and the modalities of cost sharing before the bureaus are made functional.

The work of collection of charges would be outsourced by the civic body for which Rs.4,100 per month for each CSB will be paid. However, this figure is likely to go up due to collection of dues of other agencies and departments. Interestingly, total collection from existing CSBs during February 2003 and October 2004 was over Rs.365 crores.
