Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, JAN. 26. The Congress legislator, Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, has advised Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and cadre not to stage "publicity stunts" over the killing of the TDP legislator, Paritala Ravindra, for gaining political mileage. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Radhakrishna accused the TDP leadership of "unnecessarily" dragging the names of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, his son, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, and the Panchayat Raj Minister, J.C. Diwakara Reddy, into the killing of Paritala Ravindra.
`Factional violence'
The crime was purely of factional nature and the Chief Minister or his family members were in no way involved in it. Conveying his condolences to the members of the bereaved family, Mr. Radhakrishna, son of the slain legislator, Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao, took strong exception to the TDP's criticism on not providing adequate security to Paritala Ravindra despite his repeated pleas. "My father made fervent appeals for enhancing security around him in 1988, but to no avail. And, he was killed while staging a peaceful protest," he recalled. Moreover, the then Home Minister feigned illness and got admitted into a hospital immediately after the killing of his father, he pointed out.
