Policemen chase a Bahujan Samaj Party worker indulging in violence following the murder of the party MLA, Raju Pal, in Allahabad on Wednesday. AP
ALLAHABAD, JAN. 26. Allahabad remained tense today as one person was killed and a dozen vehicles were set ablaze in violence that erupted after the killing of the Bahujan Samaj Party MLA, Raju Pal, and two of his supporters here on Tuesday. The BSP national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati, will arrive here tomorrow to take stock of the situation. Senior BSP leaders, including the State party president, Barkhu Ram Verma, and the Legislature Party leader, Swami Prasad Maurya, reached Allahabad late last night. A curfew-like situation prevailed in Neewa, the native village of Raju Pal, and neighbouring localities as shops remained closed and people kept indoors, sources said. Earlier in the day, one person was killed in the Kanhaipur area caught in the crossfire between supporters of Pal and the ruling Samajwadi Party MLA, Bijma Yadav. A mob torched the Preetam Nagar and Rajapur police chowkis and about a dozen vehicles, including a van of the PAC. UNI
