Cusat going global

THE REGISTRAR of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), A. Ramachandran, is in Dubai to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the American College.

This brings Cusat a step closer to acquiring an international flavour in terms of the reach of its academic courses.

The MoU is being signed with the Dubai-based College for bringing students in the third semester of their courses to Cusat for a period of studies. The programme will both increase the prestige of the University and also bring it the much-needed revenue.

Cusat has been on the forefront of efforts by universities in India to extend their reach to other parts of the world. A programme has been drawn up to showcase the courses of studies offered by the University in different parts of the world. Under a Universities Grants Commission-sponsored project, Cusat proposed 36 new short-term courses for being publicised abroad.

The programme was called Promotion of Indian Higher Education Abroad (PIHEAD). Cusat was selected by the UGC for showcasing its academic courses and programmes.

The PIHEAD project is yet to take off but the new initiative will give the University some visibility.

Paramedical course

The University plans to convene a meeting with the Departments of Cooperation and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare shortly to discuss the prospects of offering paramedical courses.

The SC/ST Department had proposed paramedical courses in the University and had promised up to Rs. 1 crore for the purpose.

The University has asked the Controller of Examinations, Yusuf Mohammed, to prepare a detailed project report for the purpose. In the meanwhile, the University Syndicate has decided to get an opinion from experts in the Cooperative Medical College, Kochi, for organising the proposed courses.

UGC seminar

The University will host a seminar on perspectives in literary criticism, Hindi, on January 28. The national-level seminar is being sponsored by the UGC and will be attended by writers and critics from across India.
