R-Day celebrated with gaiety

HYDERABAD, JAN. 26. The Republic Day was celebrated by several Central and State government undertakings.

T. Stanley Babu, General Manager, South Central Railway, unfurled the flag and inspected the guard of honour presented by various police and civil contingents.

Speaking at RRC Grounds, he called upon railwaymen to put technology to optimum use for achieving customer satisfaction.

At ECIL

G.P. Srivastava, Chairman and MD, ECIL, inspected the guard of honour presented by a CISF contingent. He released the company's "citizen's charter." Ch. K.V. Sharma, president, ECIL Officers' Association, spoke. A. Murugesan, R.R. Pandalai and G.N.V. Satyanarayana, Directors, were present.

S. Balagurunathan, Executive Director, BHEL, unfurled the flag and took salute at the march-past by security and fire services department.

N.R. Chanda, Executive Director, Power Grid Corporation, was the chief guest at the celebrations.

Addressing them, he explained the various activities taken up by PGCIL, including restoration work in tsunami-hit areas.

At Transco

S.V. Moorthy, Executive Director, NTPC, Southern Region, hoisted the tri-colour. Senior executives, employees and their families were present. He announced that the corporation would venture into power distribution.

Rachel Chatterjee, CMD of APTransco, who unfurled the flag, said plans were afoot to complete electrification of more than 1,000 remaining habitations in remote areas by March 2006. Ninety per cent of domestic/agriculture feeders had been segregated to enhance the quality of service. Of the 5,499 village feeders, 3,614 had been segregated. Ajay Jain, MD, and officials were present.

Addressing a gathering at S.V.P. National Police Academy, Kamal Kumar, Director, asked IPS probationers to rededicate themselves to fulfil the promises made to people. He congratulated winners of the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

P.V.K. Reeddy, IG and Director, National Industrial Security Academy, Hakimpet, after unfurling the flag, called upon the force to maintain high standards while performing duty. He gave away prizes to winners in drawing/painting competitions.

A.L. Nageswara Rao, General Manager, Andhra Bank, addressing the celebrations, said the organisation was committed to development of social sectors. S. Suryanarayana, S. Venugopal and G. Ramakrishna Reddy, General Managers, attended.

P. Gautam Kumar, VC and MD of APSRTC, unfurled the flag at the administrative office. He appealed against damaging RTC property, as it would cause inconvenience to people.
