Make TDP pay

Sir, — I refer to the acts of vandalism that followed TDP legislator Paritala Ravi's murder in Andhra Pradesh. The torching of public transport buses is deplorable. Political parties, whose cadres indulge in such vandalism, should be made accountable for such acts. They collect huge funds from various sources during elections. They can part with some to compensate the people.

M. Roopa Nagendra,

Sir, — Seventy-nine buses were burnt and 216 damaged. All this was done in the name of " a spontaneous reaction." The APSRTC, private vehicle-owners and government offices should be compensated by the TDP. Once an example is made of a party, other political parties will act with restraint in future.

R. Srinivas Singh,
Visakhapatnam, A.P.

Sir, — It is highly condemnable that TDP workers resorted to large-scale violence even before the reason for the murder was established.

In this context, the Chief Minister's gesture of handing over the case to the CBI is praiseworthy.

Sir, — Chandrababu Naidu's credibility has suffered a blow after the violence.

Sir, — Ravi's gory end is no doubt condemnable but why burn buses and damage public property in protest?

S.A. Jayatheertha,
Hyderabad

Sir, — Stringent legislation is needed to prevent such damage to the people's property.

P. Tandava Krishnan,
Hyderabad
