BANGALORE, JAN. 27. T. Ramesh U. Pai, chairman of Maha Rashtra Apex Corporation Ltd. and a host of other industries, who passed away here on Wednesday, was cremated today at the Wilson Garden electric crematorium. His son, Sudhakar Pai, a large number of friends, admirers, Rotarians and employees of the companies owned by the Manipal group were present. Among them were the former Rotary International Director, M.K. Panduranga Setty, the former District Governor of Rotary International, V.V.K. Mani, and the secretary of the All-India Manufacturers Organisation, V. Ramanand. Our Udupi Staff Correspondent reports: In a condolence message, D.T. Jayakumar, Tourism and District in-charge Minister, said Pai's contribution to the field of education was invaluable and he would be remembered for it. The Udupi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) has also mourned the death of Pai. In a press release issued here today, the UCCI president, K. Devadas Shanbhag, said Pai had worked in various capacities for the growth of the chamber. He gave valuable suggestions and advice for its development. He was responsible for converting the then remote hamlet of Manipal into a modern university town. He was responsible for the growth of many banking, business, educational, and health institutions in Manipal and other places in the region, Mr. Shanbhag added. He noted that in association with his brother, the late T.A. Pai, who was a Union Minister, Ramesh Pai took the institutions of Manipal to great heights. The teaching staff, the non-teaching staff and the students of the Madhava Pai Memorial College today paid rich tributes to Pai, who established the college at Manipal.
