Los Angeles: A man intending to commit suicide parked his car on rail tracks but apparently panicked at the last moment leading to a collision involving three trains in Glendale suburb here which left 11 persons dead and about 200 injured, officials said on Thursday. The accident occurred during the morning rush hour on Wednesday. The authorities say it appears that a commuter train hit the car, derailed and hit another commuter train coming from the opposite direction and a freight train pushing it off the track. The man who parked his car on the track was identified by police as 25-year old Juan Manuel Alvarez who had attempted to commit suicide earlier too. He was put on suicide watch. Mr. Alvarez, who police said had self inflicted superficial injuries unrelated to the crash, was taken into custody and is expected to be charged with at least 10 counts of murder. PTI
