Congress leader hacked to death

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JAN. 27. The Shanthinagar Block Congress Vice-President, Selvaraj (40), was hacked to death by a five-member gang at his shop in Wilson Garden police station limits on Thursday.

According to police, a financial dispute is the cause for the murder that took place around 2 p.m. at Selvaraj's watch shop on 5th Cross, Vinayakanagar, behind the KSRTC depot on Double Road.

The police said five men, allegedly led by Johny (28), stabbed Selvaraj in the abdomen and slit his throat with a knife, killing him on the spot, even as his father, Govindaiah, watched in horror.

Selvaraj had let out a few houses in Vinayakanagar and Johny was one of his tenants. Three months ago, Johny had taken on lease a fast food joint near his house from Boghi Shetty of Mangalore. Selvaraj reportedly brokered the deal between Johny and Shetty, the police said. As Johny suffered losses in the business, he asked Shetty to refund the Rs.40,000 he had paid him. Shetty was supposed to repay the money on January 24.
