Tirupati
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI, JAN. 27. The temple town is all set to host the 18th district convention of Communist Party of India (CPI), which is scheduled to begin on January 29. The town has already started getting a `red' tint in the form of party flags, banners, cut-outs, posters, digital boards and other forms of graffiti for the three-day event. Leaders and activists from across the district will converge here by on Friday evening. The highlight of the introductory drill on Friday will be a procession by the `red shirt' volunteers of Jana Sevadal from Gandhamaneni Sivaiah Bhavan, the party office in Bairagipatteda, up to Nalugukalla mandapam junction through the arterial roads. Around 150 women clad in white sarees (of course, with a red border) will also be part of the show. Meanwhile, members of the party's frontal organisations like the AISF, AIYF and AITUC are busy spreading the message. Praja Natya Mandali artistes, dressed in dhoti and a black rug over the body, wearing `gajjelu' (anklets) and wielding a `dappu', are busy with their rehearsals. Attaching more significance to folk art forms this time, the party has decided to include Pillangatla, Kolatalu, Pandari Bhajanalu, Gangireddulu and other rural arts in the convention, which the district secretary, P. Harinadha Reddy feels, would stand out as `a highlight among sidelights'. Members as far as from Satyavedu and Thamballapalle are expected to converge in large numbers at the venue.
