HYDERABAD, JAN. 27. Over 2,200 Telugu Desam Party workers were arrested in various parts of the State in nearly 440 cases filed in connection with the violence in the aftermath of the TDP MLA, Paritala Ravi's murder as the State Government launched a crackdown against them. They were booked for burning 86 RTC buses, damaging 442 buses and other vehicles, attacking the properties of 18 Congress leaders and 70 Government properties and assaulting 12 Congress activists and two policemen. Official sources said the Madanapalle Circle Inspector of Police and the Sub-Inspector of Police of Amalapuram sustained injuries in the violence. Two police buses were also damaged in Kurnool and Warangal districts. Arrests were made on a large scale in Krishna district, particularly Vijayawada town. Nearly 100 TDP activists were also arrested in Adilabad. The APSRTC Staff and Workers Federation in a press release condemned the violence and said the TDP Government had pushed the RTC into losses and now the party activists had caused it further loss by damaging its fleet.
