Call for formation of `genuine' communist force

By Our Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA, JAN. 27. Speakers at the inaugural meeting of the All-India Unity Conference of the revolutionary Communist parties on Thursday stressed the need for forming a `genuine' communist force to fight `anti-working class', `anti-farmer' policies being adopted by the Government.

The speakers, including the secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Kanu Sanyal, and the CPI (ML) Red Flag secretary, K.L. Ramachandran, derided the leadership of the CPI and the CPI (M) as well as the CPI (Maoists) for deviating from their policies.

Dig at Left wing

Mr. Sanyal came down heavily on the present Left wing, the CPI (M) in particular, for setting aside the policies of agrarian and peasant revolution and supporting the pro-capitalist parties like the Congress.

"The Congress is no different from the BJP. The Left wing, which claims to be acting like a remote control to check the moves of the Congress Government have betrayed the Marxist-Leninist ideals in supporting the Congress-led alliance," he said.

On the Maoists, Mr. Sanyal said that the path adopted by them in targeting the individuals instead of concentrating on the systemic lapses was only helping the police and thereby the ruling classes in quelling any public movement at the grass root level.

Unity efforts

In his address, Mr. Ramachandran lamented that the absence of an effective leadership had weakened the Communist movement throughout the country.

About the efforts to forge unity among the revolutionary parties, he said that the coming together of these parties was based on the understanding reached on the policies as well as the stand to be adopted for taking up public issues.

The conference will continue up to February 1.
