Advani soft on Chautala, hard on Congress

REWARI (HARYANA), JAN. 27. BJP president L K Advani today sought a five-year term for the party in Haryana for a corruption-free administration in the State.

``The people are angry with the Indian National Lok Dal Government but they should not revert to the Congress,'' he said addressing an election rally in support of his party candidates.

The BJP had shown that they were capable of ensuring good governance at the Centre and the country's prestige was elevated in the world community. ``Many are wondering how such a good government could lose elections,'' Mr Advani noted.

The Congress had been in power for most of the 50 years in Haryana and had ``failed miserably'' in solving the problems, particularly of the farmers, he said. The BJP, he said, had come out with innovative schemes like Kisan Credit Card and crop insurance to help the farmers, who got least priority in the Congress administration.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Congress, which replaced the Telugu Desam Party Government, had ``failed miserably'' in checking the suicide rate of the farmers, Mr Advani said. During the TDP regime there were only 50 to 60 suicides of farmers in the State but between May 2004 and this month, 1600 farmers had committed suicide and the party had come out with details of the deceased to highlight the failure of the Congress Government.

Refusing to criticise Om Prakash Chautala, a former ally of the NDA at the Centre, Mr Advani said the party would ensure a humble corruption-free administration in the State. ``Give us five years opportunity and we will show what good governance means", he added.
