NEW DELHI, JAN. 27 . The President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service have been awarded to 22 personnel of Indo Tibetan Border Police on the occasion of Republic Day 2005. A premier central paramilitary force, the ITBP guards the 3,488 km long stretch of India-China border. Besides, it is also engaged in counter-insurgency operations in Arunachal Pradesh and Kashmir Valley and VIP/vital installation security duties. The President's Police Medal for Gallantry has gone to Head Constable/GD Bhagwinder Singh and Constable/GD Sant Ram, while the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service has been awarded to DIG M.S. Bhurji, Addl. DIG, J.V.S. Chaudhry, CMO (SG), Dr. Pratap Chandra Panda, DC Engineer, Mahendra Kumar, and DC (GD), Kanhaiya Lal. The Police Medal for Meritorious Service has been awarded to 15 personnel. They are Addl. DIGs, Harbhajan Singh, R.K. Saini and R.K.D. Singh; Commandants, Sushil Kumar and A.S. Patial; CMO(SG), Dr. G.R. Chowdhary, Assistant Commandants GD, Balkar Singh and Bachan Singh, Asst. Comdt./Telecom, J.P. Sharma, Inspectors/GD, Tashi Tundup and Balwant Singh, Sub Inspector/PH Janam Chand Katoch, HC/ARMR Mrigender Chand, and Constables/GD Guman Singh and Khadak Singh.
