THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 27. The Government is willing to consider the demand to set up a Pay Revision Commission shortly. The Governor, R.L. Bhatia, said in his address to the Assembly today that the Government would not shy away from its obligations to Government employees. He added that the Government machinery played a crucial role in translating the Government's vision into reality.
Mixed reaction
The offer has, however, evoked mixed reactions from service organisations. The NGO Association headed by Kampara Narayanan welcomed it. The NGO Front, Kerala Government Employees Union and Kerala NGO Association, in a joint statement, charged the Government with shrewdly evading its responsibility through a vague reference in the Governor's address. They demanded interim relief and restoration of the curtailed benefits in full. The Joint Council of State Service Organisations felt that it was part of a deliberate move to further delay pay revision, which the employees should have got three years ago. The convention was to give interim relief if pay revision was delayed. The Governor did not say anything about it. The Kerala NGO Centre questioned the sincerity of the offer and said that it would go ahead with the proposed strike.
