Neethling sets World record
MOSCOW,
JAN. 27.
South Africa's Ryk Neethling broke his own World record in the 100m medley in 52.01s at a short course World Cup swim meet at Olympic Stadium on Wednesday.
Neethling shaved one-tenth of a second off his previous record of 52.11s, set at a World Cup meet in Berlin on Saturday, when he also broke a four-day-old record set by another South African, Roland Schoeman.
Schoeman, who combined with Neethling to help South Africa to the Olympic 400m freestyle relay gold in Athens, finished second in 53.88, followed by Ukraine's Sergiy Sergeyev at 55.01.
Neethling, the World Cup overall leader with 1,071 points after five events, also won the 100m freestyle in 47.3s. Jason Lezak of the United States was second, 0.16s behind. AP
