First convocation held

NEW DELHI JAN. 27. The first convocation of the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology in Noida was held this past Monday. The Union Human Resource Development Minister, Arjun Singh, was the chief guest on the occasion. M. Tech degrees were awarded to the first batch of students who graduated in July 2004. The JIIT is a deemed-to-be university and is fully backed and supported by the Jaypee Group of Companies through its trust -- Jaiprakash Sewa Sansthan.

Presidential Award presented

NEW DELHI JAN. 27. D.D. Kaushik, Superintendent of Central Excise and Customs, New Delhi, has been presented the Presidential Award for his distinguished service record. Mr. Kaushik has worked with the Preventive and Intelligence branches of Customs and Central Excise and has demonstrated his investigative and preventive skills on many occasions. In the past also, his work earned him several commendations from senior officers and other organisations.

Contribution for tsunami relief

NEW DELHI JAN. 27. The Indian Defence Services of Engineers Association has contributed Rs 28 lakhs for the relief and rehabilitation of tsunami victims. The cheques and demand drafts were handed over to the Union Defence Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, earlier this week. IDSE provides vital civil, electrical and mechanical engineering support to the Army, Air Force, Navy and many other organisations.

Manav Sthali School's gesture

NEW DELHI JAN. 27. The management of Manav Sthali School has contributed an amount of Rs 3.5 lakhs for relief and rehabilitation of tsunami victims. The money was raised through the joint efforts of the students and the staff members of the school. It was presented in the form of two demand drafts of over Rs.2.36 lakhs and Rs 1.11 lakhs towards the Delhi Chief Minister's Relief Fund and the Central Board of Secondary Education Department's Tsunami Relief Fund respectively.

The drafts were presented to the Education and Tourism Minister, Arvind Singh Lovely, and the Chairman of CBSE, Ashok Ganguly.
