BANGALORE, JAN. 27. The Karnataka police, as part of its e-governance initiative, will come out with a Navigational Street Directory (NSD) to ease traffic problems in Bangalore. The State Government has released funds for the portal-based NSD that will be developed by the Computer Wing of the State Police, according to a press release from the Additional Director-General of Police (Computer Wing), S.T. Ramesh. The portal will have road maps and details of one-ways and important landmarks in the city. It will also have a "querying facility" through which one can find out the shortest and alternative routes between two locations and also the distance and approximate time of travel. "This will help the people in planning the optimum route for travelling between two destinations. Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses, autorickshaws and other vehicles can also plan their movement in a better manner. Indirectly, this will help in reducing traffic congestion," the release said.
Grievances
The Computer Wing also has a plan to set up Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) for redressal of public grievances. Under the proposed project, a person staying in a particular district can dial a particular number that will be provided by the police and record his grievance. His grievance will be recorded in a structured manner by the system and he will be provided a unique number. The grievance will be transmitted through e-mail to the jurisdictional police officer for redressal, the release said. The system also provides for generating periodical alerts in the form of reminders and status of the petition. "The proposed system will obviate the need for a citizen to travel all the way to the district headquarters to file his petition," the release said. The Government has released funds for setting up the pilot project in one district.
