BSNL launches meter reading announcement service

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI, JAN. 27. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched an interactive voice response system-based meter reading announcement service for basic subscribers yesterday in major exchanges in the Tiruchi telecom district.

The service is a non-metered facility. Subscribers can get information on the meter readings of their telephones through the service, which can be accessed by dialling 19621 (for English) or 19622 (for Tamil).

The service would not be available for subscribers in smaller exchanges such as C-DOT 256, SBM, TDMA PMP and WLL in the telecom district. It would be extended to all exchanges in the district soon, according to a BSNL release.

The BSNL also launched an IVRS-based trunk call booking (180) and trunk call processing service, which is also non-metered, yesterday. Subscribers using the service are required to follow the instructions and register the "number called" with the STD code.

Complaints, if any, in accessing the service can be lodged with the Senior Divisional Engineer, Trunks, and over telephone at 2460200 or the Supervisor, Trunks, Tiruchi, at 2460736 / 2460756.
