COIMBATORE, JAN. 27. The State Bank of India (SBI) has installed a `coin dispenser' at the Railway Junction here to facilitate the user get Re. 1 coins.
Passenger-friendly
It has been fixed next to the platform ticket vending machine with an intention to help the people who run around to get change for currency notes at the last minute, the Chief Commercial Inspector, Coimbatore Railway Junction, L. Mohan, said. The facility would make the Coimbatore Railway Junction more passenger-friendly, the Station Manager, James, and Chief Reservation Supervisor, Prabhakar, said. P. Pradeep Kumar, General Manager, Chennai Circle of the SBI, inaugurated the machine, sourced from Kores India at a cost of Rs. 40,000. The bank was planning to set up more such coin dispensers at vantage points like bus stands and hospitals. "We will replenish the chest. At a time, 4,000 coins of Re.1 could be loaded. The user has to insert one Rs.10 note. The sensor will reject fake and soiled notes. It will accept only currency notes with the `Gandhi' picture," Mr. Narayanaswamy. AGM, SBI, told The Hindu . "Whenever the chest-load falls below a certain limit, the sensor will indicate and we will load the coins," he said. The machine had been placed in a prominent place to prevent anti-social elements from indulging in mischief or vandalism, the Deputy General Manager, R. Kalyanaraman, and Chief Manager, Dayanidhi, pointed out.
