THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 27. The recognition won by Sukumar Azhikode in the form of the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram is a recognition for Malayalam literature as a whole, the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, has said. At a function held here today to confer the prestigious award on the eminent writer and orator, Mr. Chandy said society needed more of the likes of Dr. Azhikode. In a world full of sycophants, his constructive criticism was invaluable. Dr. Azhikode, who received the award, donated the prize money of Rs.1 lakh to the Chief Minister's relief fund in aid of tsunami victims. He said that perhaps it was destined by Ezhuthachan that the award money given in his name should be used for alleviating human suffering.
